WASHINGTON (NEXSTAR) - Former WWE CEO turned Education Secretary Linda McMahon stepped into the ring Tuesday afternoon.

She took questions from Democrats and Republicans on Capitol Hill, as the Trump administration pushes sweeping cuts to education funding.

The education secretary defended the Trump administration request to cut upwards of $67 billion from the Department of Education's budget next year, that's on top of DOGE cuts already in place.

The push is setting off alarms from both sides of the aisle.

"You're shirking educational opportunity in the United States for a whole generation and more,” said Sen. Jack Reed (D-R.I.).
