The city of Phoenix has seen generally positive outcomes for the 35 eviction legal services closed cases this year — some of which have kept residents in their homes — after the city reintroduced the free program in January.
Human Services Director Jacqueline Edwards showed the Phoenix Economic Development and Housing Subcommittee last week that of 35 closed cases, there were:
Nine cases in which there were negotiated settlements with the landlord;
Five in which tenants could remain in their affordable housing unit;
Four in which tenants negotiated to remain in their homes without an eviction;
Three in which eviction filings were prevented entirely;
Three in which the tenants had to leave their home but avoided an eviction, which remains on tenant screening reports and credit reports
