CALICO ROCK, Ark. — Grant Hardin, the former police chief for the City of Gateway who was convicted of rape and murder, is now facing state and federal charges after he escaped from an Arkansas prison over a week ago.

Hardin escaped from the North Central Unit in Calico Rock on May 25. Less than two days later, amid a days-long manhunt carried out by local, state, and federal law enforcement, officials filed an escape charge against him in Izard County court.

A federal case was opened against Hardin on May 30. According to U.S. Marshals, he's accused of unlawful flight to avoid prosecution.
