Austin-Bergstrom International Airport is soon wrapping up a project to expand the airport’s international arrivals area with a goal of creating a more pleasant and speedy customs and baggage experience for travelers arriving from abroad.

The project added two new baggage carousels to the international arrivals area, increased the number of U.S. Customs and Border Protection booths and doubled the size of the area where passengers wait to go through customs.

Airport CEO Ghizlane Badawi told the American-Statesman the improvements will make the experience “faster, more efficient and more welcoming,” noting the project was finished ahead of schedule.

She also hopes the expansion will help attract additional airlines and international routes to Austin-Bergstrom.
