With five players in double figures ASVEL Villeurbanne defeated AS Monaco 94 – 74 in Game 1 of the French League semifinals between the two sides.
Andre Roberson led a balanced ASVEL effort with 16 points and eight rebounds. Paris Lee had 15 points, Joffrey Lauvergne dropped 13 points, Theo Maledon scored 11 and Neal Sako provided the hosts with 10 points plus six rebounds.
The trio of Mam Jaiteh (13 points), Petr Cornelie (12 points, five rebounds), Matthew Strazel (10 points) stood out from Monaco that is without suspended superstar Mike James.
ASVEL entered the game with a strong start to lead 31 – 21 after 10 minutes. Monaco reacted to cut the margin to 48 – 45 at halftime.
