ORLANDO, Fla. (WCJB) - The State University System (SUS) Board of Governors convened Tuesday afternoon to vote on Dr. Santa Ono’s appointment as the next president of the University of Florida (UF). In a split decision, the board denied Ono’s appointment.
The 17-member board, which serves as the governing body for the state’s 12 public universities, met at UCF’s Downtown Campus with Ono’s confirmation as the only action item listed on the agenda.
The Board of Governors voted on May 27 to deny Ono’s candidacy to become the 14th UF President.
It came a week after UF’s Board of Trustees unanimously approved Ono for president, and a month after he was announced as the sole finalist by UF’s Presidential Search Committee.
