HOUSTON (KIAH) — Gun violence is a serious issue in Houston, that is the reason why Harris County Public Health (HCPH) teamed up with the Offices of Commissioner Rodney Ellis and Sheriff Ed Gonzalez to create the R.I.S.E. Empowerment Center in Cypress Station.
"This is an important day," Commissioner Ellis said. "This space will serve as a hub for those seeking violence prevention services, community resources, and neighborhood resources."
The resource center was created to address the issues that cause gun violence. It's part of the Community Health and Violence Prevention Services (CHVPS) Division of HCPH.
"This work is just one key piece in a broader effort to address systemic inequalities that fuel cycles of violence, one that we embrace with full force," Ellis said.
