OCALA, Fla. (WCJB) - The Salvation Army in Ocala will remain open through Labor Day, but leaders said they will continue to seek community support amid ongoing funding challenges.
Advisory board members reported in a recent meeting that it costs $60,000 each month to operate the shelter, and they have secured $25,000 in restricted funding in the past two to three weeks.
James Hilty, a board member, emphasized the importance of summer donations.
“Sometimes people don’t focus on donating to charities whether it be The Salvation Army or others over the summer,” Hilty said. “As you all know, we focus on our own activities such as vacations and things of that nature, so just take a second look at what you’re doing, and see if there isn’t something in your heart that you can send towards The
