CHICAGO (WGN) — Before Tuesday night's game against the Detroit Tigers, the Chicago White Sox placed starting pitcher Jonathan Cannon on the 15-day injured list and called up a roster replacement from Triple-A.

Cannon heads to the IL with a lower back strain after going 2-7 with a 4.66 ERA over 12 games and ten starts this season. Over his 63.2 innings pitched, Cannon has struck out 51 batters, compared to handing out 21 free passes.

Caleb Freeman was called up from the Charlotte Knights to replace Cannon.

Freeman is 1-0 with a 3.66 ERA and 19 strikeouts in 17 relief appearances this season between the Double-A Birmingham Barons and the Knights. He made four appearances with the Sox from May 4-10 in his first stint in the major leagues.

The White Sox take on the Tigers at 6:40 p.m. CT,
