PRESTONSBURG, KY (WCHS) — Scioto County leaders are working to make dilapidated structures a thing of the past. They have received a half a million dollars from the State of Ohio to demolish those vacant and run-down buildings When the structures are torn down, the hope is something beneficial to the area will take its place,

In Round 1 of the program, 100 structures throughout the county were torn down. In Round 2, 41 structures have been identified to eventually be demolished.

Some vacant and run down properties and structures have been havens for the homeless or sites for illegal drug activity. Officials say those vacant buildings are a health hazard for neighborhoods.
