PUTNAM COUNTY, W.Va. (WCHS) — Putnam County has started a new program to encourage people to clean up their dilapidated homes and junk on their properties. The encouragement comes in the form of door hangers that list the various property code violations like overgrown vegetation, dilapidated structures and health hazards. Whichever the property violates will be checked before placed on the door.

Putnam County Sheriff Bobby Eggleton, who serves on the county’s Dilapidated and Abandoned Enforcement Agency, said the door hangers are a way to put people on notice.

“You already know it. Now we’re just letting you know that we know, too," Eggleton said. "This is a very informal: 'Hey, take care of your own problems,' so we don’t have to, before it does become formal. That’s what we’re asking
