MSNBC host Nicolle Wallace on June 3, 2025

MSNBC Nicolle Wallace said Tuesday the economy is the most surprising thing that President Donald Trump has "willingly destroyed."

Wallace suggested that Trump's "political superpower" stemmed from his ability to make people believe that his extravagant lifestyle — symbolized by gold toilets and a helicopter — could somehow elevate their own status and wealth through mere association.

"The opposite is true," she noted during her MSNBC show Tuesday.

"And this is something where folks were either around him that prevented him from harming not just his own voters, but all voters, everyone who has to put food on the table," Wallace continued.

Joe Walsh, a former Republican member of Congress who announced on Tuesday he is becoming a Democrat, said during the segment that the president "single handedly, through his ignorance and his obsession with tariffs, has broken what was a beautiful, great, strong economy that he inherited."

He added that the only people benefiting from his policies are "him and his wealthy buddies who have figured out how to take advantage of his idiocy and play the market."

"It's regular folk and small business owners who are being hurt right now, who are feeling pain right now," the former GOP lawmaker noted.

Meanwhile, the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) significantly revised its economic forecasts Tuesday, attributing the downward adjustments to Trump's escalating trade policies.

The OECD now projects U.S. economic growth to decelerate to 1.6% in 2025, a substantial decrease from the previously anticipated 2.8% for 2024.
