On Tuesday at 3:45 p.m. an air quality alert was reported by the National Weather Service in effect until Thursday at midnight for Berks, Lehigh and Northampton counties.

“The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection has issued a code orange air quality alert Wednesday for The Lehigh Valley/Berks County area,” states the weather service.

The alert is due to sun and warm temperatures interacting with a layer of Canadian wildfire smoke aloft, which is projected to increase ground-level ozone, according to the weather service.
