HARRISON COUNTY, OH (WTRF) - For the first time in nearly a century a new jail is finally complete in Harrison County.

Ohio Governor Mike DeWine joined Sheriff Mark Touville, former Sheriff Joe Myers and several county officials for a ribbon cutting ceremony outside the new facility this afternoon.

Construction began on the jail back in 2023, and officials say it will be able to house prisoners in just a few short months. The new structure is well over 20-thousands square feet and will hold 80 beds. That's 10 times more than the current jail, which only has 8.

Sheriff Touville says it will save tax-payers money since prisoners will no longer have to be sent out of the county.
