HEDGESVILLE — After a nearly four-year approval process through the West Virginia Legislature, signage was placed last week at the U.S. Army Pvt. Paul J. Hofe Memorial Bridge on Route 9 in Hedgesville.
Hofe owned and operated Hofe’s Well Drilling for 50 years and was a dedicated Berkeley County community member.
Jeremy Folk, grandson of Hofe, said this week that the family is extremely grateful that Hofe has been recognized with the naming of the bridge. He commended specifically state Sen. Tom Willis and Delegate Mike Hornby, who worked to get the required legislation completed to allow the signage to be posted.
Hofe, born in Little Orleans, Maryland, moved to West Virginia and opened his well drilling business in 1969. The location of the sign honoring him is just a quarter mile from
