DURHAM, N.C. (WNCN) — Sitting empty for nearly seven years, a building in downtown Durham could shape the future of the city. But plans for redevelopment have hit a snag.

This week, the Durham city council will discuss a plan to end negotiations with The Peebles Corporation on their proposed redevelopment of the old police headquarters on West Chapel Hill Street.

Peebles proposed residential units with a grocery store, retail shops, labs, offices and a hotel. But some of the original plans have changed.

Since August, the city reports the total project cost has increased from $285 million to $382 million. The city's contribution would jump from $61 million to $78 million.
