Jac time!
Let’s cut right to the chase here: Jac Caglianone is making his big league debut for the Kansas City Royals tonight as the designated hitter, hitting in the sixth lineup slot behind Salvador Perez.
Every part of that statement is interesting. That Caglianone is here at all is fantastic, as he forced his way through the minors wielding the lumber with power and grace like a flannel-clad lumberjack. That he’s playing DH is somewhat interesting, as he doesn’t have a clear positional fit in Kansas City. And that he’s hitting sixth immediately behind Salvy is interesting, as Salvy got bumped down the lineup in favor of Maikel Garcia.
We’ll see how Jac does tonight, but a fair warning: the three to five plate appearances he’s likely to get are not indicative of the rest of the seaso
