HOUSTON (KIAH) — An escaped inmate from an Austin psychiatric hospital was caught in Houston by U.S. Marshals on Tuesday, authorities said.

McArthur Mathis, an inmate from Grimes County, was found in Houston on Tuesday afternoon after he escaped from the Cross Creek Psychiatric and Addiction Hospital in Austin. • (Grimes County Sheriff's Office) • (Grimes County Sheriff's Office)

He was hiding in a pet store near I-45 and West Road by the U.S. Marshal's Gulf Coast Violent Offenders & Fugitive Task Force.

Mathis is being transported back to the Grimes County Jail by members of the Grimes County Sheriff's Office.
