A shoplifting suspect was struck and killed by a Pueblo police vehicle on June 3 after police say they brandished a handgun and fled from officers during an incident at Famous Footwear in north Pueblo.
Pueblo police attempted to contact the alleged shoplifter at approximately 1:23 p.m., according to a Colorado State Patrol news release. The suspect allegedly fled on foot, "prompting pursuit by officers both on foot and in a patrol vehicle through the area behind nearby businesses."
"During the pursuit, the suspect ran towards the front entrance of the Colorado State Patrol Pueblo Office, brandished a handgun, and after failing to comply with officers’ commands to drop the weapon, the suspect was struck by a vehicle driven by a responding Pueblo Police officer," CSP officials said in the
