A 17-year-old was arrested Monday and charged with attempted murder after allegedly firing a gun at another male he knew, according to Waltham police.

The incident occurred shortly before 5:30 p.m. near Moody Street and Railroad Avenue, the Waltham Police Department said in a statement.

The teen was not identified.

Police responded to a report of gunfire and found two males at the scene. Neither was injured, according to the statement.

Investigators then determined the two knew each other and that the incident was isolated.

The shooter faces charges including assault with intent to murder, assault with a dangerous weapon, and multiple firearms offenses, according to the statement.

“Authorities believe this was not a random act,” the statement said.
