CINCINNATI (WKRC) — A new study underscores the importance of exercise in cancer recovery, revealing that movement can significantly enhance healing and survival rates.

The research, conducted by the American Society of Clinical Oncology, focused on colon cancer survivors and found that structured exercise programs led to a 90 percent survival rate in patients with stage two and stage three high-risk colon cancer, compared to 83 percent in those who only received health education. Additionally, there was a 37 percent lower risk of death in the exercise group.

Cathy Maltbie, a YMCA personal trainer and cancer survivor, shared her experience: "Now I'm starting to be able to trust my body again and feel like I can do everyday things, that's what really what I wanted to do."
