CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (KFVS) - There was a time when colorectal cancer was not on the radar of most younger people. But that time is over.
The fact is more and more younger people are being diagnosed with colon cancer. For one local woman, her cancer came when she least expected it.
“The thought that it could be cancer never crossed my mind. That was not something I even thought was a consideration.”
“Because you were pretty young right?” I asked.
“I was 36.”
Michele Elfrink remembers well the battle of her life. She was young and the mom of two little girls when she got a sudden onset of symptoms.
“Very sudden constipation. Stomach pain. Lower back pain. I was losing weight. I just didn’t feel good. Something just felt off.”
