ELMIRA HEIGHTS, N.Y. (WENY) -- Summer vacation is just around the corner for local students, but heading back to school may look a little different when a statewide cellphone ban hits the classroom. The Elmira Heights Central School District reacted to the change at a town hall meeting on Tuesday night.

Governor Kathy Hochul recently announced a statewide cellphone ban that is set to hit schools across New York.

The Elmira Heights Central School District is weighing in as guidelines for the ban have been released. Superintendent Michael F. Gill hosted a town hall at Thomas A. Edison High School to break down the state's expectations and how the district plans to best support a distraction-free learning environment.
