GRAND CANYON NATIONAL PARK, AZ (AZFamily) — Strong storms have brought heavy rain and flash flooding, stranding hikers in the Grand Canyon, the National Weather Service reported on Tuesday night.

The agency said that around 7:30 p.m., local law enforcement reported hikers were stuck because of flooding along Havasu Creek. Between 1 and 2 inches of rain had fallen near Supai, with upper Havau Creek Basin getting 2 to 3 inches of rain. Hikers and campers have been urged to head to higher ground immediately and stay away from creeks and washes.

Other areas that will experience flash flooding include Grand Canyon National Park, Beaver Falls and Supai and Havasupai Reservation. A flash flood warning for the Havasu Creek basin will last until 11:45 p.m., the National Weather Service said.
