The testimony of a teenage witness to the fatal shooting of 12-year-old Kain Heiland continued Tuesday afternoon with an hours-long, and at times, grueling, cross-examination by the shooter’s attorney.

Prosecutors accuse 15-year-old Nolan Grove of fatally shooting Kain in the back on April 1, 2023, in front of a third teenager whose testimony took center stage in court Tuesday.

Nolan’s side of the story spells out that the then-12-year-old thought the gun was unloaded as he played with the pistol’s red dot laser.

But police filed a third-degree murder charge against Nolan, saying he intentionally shot his friend after mocking him all day.
