A suburban Philadelphia police department closed its station on Tuesday to allow officers to mourn following the announcement that an officer had died by suicide the day before.
The Upper Providence Township Police Department in Montgomery County, located about 30 miles northwest of downtown Philadelphia, confirmed the death of one of its officers in a statement released Monday night.
It read as follows : “Tragically, an Upper Providence Township Police Officer took his own life in the parking lot of the township campus this evening. There was no danger to the public at any time. Our thoughts and prayers are with the officer and his family. We thank the public for their grace as we navigate this tragedy. We will have no further statement tonight. “
