PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE)– The Rhode Island House of Representatives passed a bill on Tuesday that would allow for virtual driver’s education classes.
The legislation, introduced by Rep. Kathleen Fogarty (D-South Kingstown), would allow for the classes through July 1, 2027.
Following that, the Rhode Island Board of Education would have to provide a report comparing the test scores of drivers who learned virtually versus in-person to Rhode Island’s legislative leaders no later than Sept. 1, 2027.
Fogarty said that the virtual classes would provide an alternative for families who cannot take a driver-in-training to in-person classrooms.
The bill now heads to the Senate.
