BOSTON —
A man rescued a blind woman from a fire early Wednesday at a building in the city's Roxbury neighborhood.
The fire started at 3:30 a.m. at 971 Tremont Street, officials said. Socrate Joseph, who lives on the third floor of the building said he woke up to people yelling to get out of the building, which was on fire.
He said he remembered there was an elderly woman who lived on the floor below, who might need help escaping the flames.
"I proceeded to grab her hand, but she was fighting back. She did not want to come out. So in that moment, I just yanked her, put her over my shoulders, so I was climbing down the steps with her, right. That is when one of the firefighters came, and he took her from me," he said.
The firefighters were called to the building by a medical alert syst
