HICKORY, N.C. (WBTV) - The man killed in the Catawba County mass shooting this past weekend used to be part of a professional baseball team.
The Hickory Crawdads confirmed that 58-year-old Shawn Hood was a bullpen catcher for four seasons in the late 1990s.
Hood was the only person killed in the June 1 shooting on Walnut Acres Drive. Eleven other people were hurt.
To honor Hood, the Crawdads held a moment of silence in his memory prior to Tuesday’s game against the Columbia Fireflies.
“We’ve always had a saying, ‘Once a Crawdad, always a Crawdad,’” the team’s general manager, Douglas Locascio, said. “So once we found out that he was a former Crawdad, we wanted to honor his life and we’ll be doing a moment of silence before tonight’s game to pay our respect and to issue our condolen
