|TAMPA — Whether Nikita Kucherov’s second consecutive scoring title was enough to win the Hart Trophy as the NHL player most valuable to his team remains to be seen, but on Wednesday the Lightning right winger received an honor that might mean more to him.

He was selected as the league’s top player by his peers.

For the second time in his career, Kucherov won the Ted Lindsay Award, which goes to the NHL’s most outstanding player as decided by members of the Players’ Association. It’s the only NHL award voted on by the players themselves.

Kucherov finished ahead of fellow finalists and Colorado teammates Nathan MacKinnon and Cale Makar.

Kucherov previously received the award in 2019, when he also won the Hart and Art Ross Trophy, which goes to the league’s top point scorer. Marty St.
