Elon Musk spent much of Tuesday—and the early hours of Wednesday morning— raging against the “big, beautiful” spending bill that President Donald Trump is trying to push through the Republican-led Senate.

“This immense level of overspending will drive America into debt slavery!” Musk wrote on X at 2:14 am Eastern, doing little to dispel rumors that he is frequently hopped up on drugs . He called the bill a “ disgusting abomination ” and promised to “ fire all politicians who betrayed the American people ” who voted for it.

Musk says he hates the bill because it is expected to drive up the deficit by nearly $4 trillion . But, as White House sources have been quick to tell reporters over the last 24 hours, there are other reasons why the billionaire Tesla CEO is lashing out.
