WABASH COUNTY, Ill. (WEVV) — A child passed away in Wabash County, Illinois, after what authorities are calling a tragic accident.

The Wabash County Coroner's Office responded to a home in Mount Carmel on May 29 regarding the death of a juvenile.

According to the coroner's office, an autopsy was conducted the next day.

Preliminary findings from the autopsy indicate that the child's cause of death was consistent with suffocation due to a Mylar helium-filled balloon, the coroner's office said.

We're told additional testing and toxicology are pending to determine the final cause of death.
