Priest River Elementary students recently got a visit from Smokey Bear and his helpers as the U.S. Forest Service and the Idaho Department of Lands brought a message of fire prevention to the school as well as important rules for all to know.
Exciting for Priest River was the announcement that three students won not only in the local district poster contest, but they won at the Idaho state level and then placed in the region which consists of eight states.
“We are so proud and happy for their recognition and are very pleased to see that all the student-artists understand Smokey’s message,” said Pam Aunan, poster contest coordinator. Lucas Schmaltz, a second grader at Priest River Elementary, was named a state and regional winner in the annual Smokey Bear fire prevention poster
