Thanks to a little help from the community, South Pend Oreille Fire Rescue were able to respond to — and put out — a brush fire near an otherwise inaccessible spot near Bead Lake.
"With fire conditions becoming increasingly dangerous, SPOFR had to utilize local watercraft to transport personnel and water to the incident," Rick O'Brien, South Pend Oreille public information officer, said.
O'Brien said the fire department was appreciative of their neighbors at Bead Lake for shuttling fire crews and equipment to the site, allowing them to fight the fire.
The public information officer said the department also received help from the Kalispel Tribe and the U.S. Forest Service for sending crews to assist, including Kalispel Tribe Chief Scott Doughty.
