(AP) — Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer said she talked to President Donald Trump this week about the two men convicted of plotting to kidnap her in 2020 after the president mused last week that he would look into pardoning them.
Whitmer is a Democrat and potential 2028 presidential candidate. She declined to elaborate on details of the discussion, but said she connected with the Republican president directly on the subject and "made my thoughts known.”
“It’s important that in any case that has resulted in a jury convicting people, the impact on the victim is really important," she said Tuesday at a ribbon-cutting event in Detroit.
