DES MOINES, Iowa -- U.S. Senator Joni Ernst, a Red Oak Republican, announced the hiring of her 2026 re-election campaign manager on Wednesday, apparently ending speculation about whether she would seek a third term. This would be Ernst’s third term. During a Republican primary debate on Iowa PBS in 2014, she said that she would only seek two terms.

Each full senate senate term is six years. When asked during the 2014 debate whether she would limit herself to two terms, Ernst responded, “Twelve years, and I would also like to see an amendment (to establish term limits).”
