PORTLAND, Maine — Portland police have arrested a man accused of stabbing another individual Wednesday morning.

Police responded around 6 a.m. to a report about a stabbing in the area of Cumberland Avenue and Preble Street, the agency said Wednesday afternoon.

When they arrived at the scene, they found a 41-year-old man with a "laceration on his hand."

The injured man, who police described as homeless, was brought to Maine Medical Center for treatment and has since been released.

The suspect was arrested later in the morning, according to the release.

Christopher Hodgkins, 37, has been charged with elevated aggravated assault and violating conditions of release. Police described him as unhoused, as well.
