Colorado Springs closed the roads through North Cheyenne Cañon Park Wednesday after rain washed out a "significant" section of North Cheyenne Cañon Road.

Colorado Springs Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services spokesperson Cassie Melvin said a park ranger reported the washout early Wednesday morning. The collapsed section of road is about a mile and a half past the Starsmore Visitor and Nature Center.

The city closed both the damaged road and Gold Camp Road to keep all drivers and cyclists out of the area while the city's stormwater engineer evaluates the damage. North Cheyenne Cañon Park is still accessible via the hiking trails through Stratton Open Space.
