HOUSTON (KIAH) — Construction workers have damaged bricks that were laid more than 100 years ago in Houston’s Fourth Ward, and leaders are working to try to fix the situation.

Contractors were working on the road at the intersection of Wilson and Andrews streets when they damaged or destroyed eight to ten bricks that were a part of a road in Freedmen’s Town. • (KIAH) • (KIAH) • (KIAH)

"A little bit of shock, a little bit of disappointment," was Houston Freedmen's Town Conservancy Executive Director Sharon Fletcher's response to the damage. "But still at the same time, we're operating through hope that people will continue to be educated and understand why we want to be able to preserve these."
