SANDY CREEK, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) -- Two campsites were destroyed at Brennan's beach in Sandy Creek after an early morning fire on June 4.

According to New York State Police, a seasonal camper at the campground woke up around 3 a.m. on Wednesday to find fire spreading across his campsite.

The camper said that he and his wife had maintained a small campfire on their deck earlier in the night before going to bed around 11:00 p.m. Several hours later, they found the fire had spread about 10 feet from its original location.

911 had been called, and before the fire department arrived, the camper and nearby neighbors attempted to get the fire under control with a hose, but the fire quickly grew. It destroyed both the caller’s camper and a neighboring unit.
