MIAMI — Desperately needing something to put an end to the Miami Marlins’ sudden momentum on Wednesday, the Rockies got a gem of a defensive play at just the right time.

After scoring two runs in the seventh inning to pull within 3-2, the Marlins looked ready to tie the contest when Liam Hicks laced a two-out double down the left-field line. However, left fielder Jordan Beck fielded it cleanly and fired a relay throw to shortstop Orlando Arcia, who made a pinpoint throw to catcher Jacob Stallings to nail Miami’s Jesus Sanchez at the plate, ending the threat.

That play would be the difference in Colorado’s 3-2 win over the Marlins, capping a sweep at loanDepot Park that few would have predicted when the series began Monday.

The win also put an end to a franchise-record 57 straight series
