NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) - A man is on trial in Charleston this week, charged with murder and weapons crimes, accused of shooting and killing a North Charleston motel owner at his business.

Jagdishbhai Patel, 67, died after suffering a gunshot wound to the head in the main office of the Charleston Heights Motel in 2022. Darnell Dwyane Brown is facing murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime charges.

In court, Patel’s family members testified as witnesses to the crime. Patel’s wife was standing next to him and was on the phone with their son when the shots rang out. Through an interpreter, she testified that she heard a loud sound and turned around to see her husband on the ground and bleeding.
