SPRINGFIELD, MA (WGGB/WSHM) - Crews have been called to a house fire on Dawes Street in Springfield.
The fire at the two-and-a-half story multifamily home at 47 and 49 Dawes Street, just a couple of blocks away from American International College, broke out around 3 p.m. Wednesday.
Our crew on-scene reported seeing significant burns and damage to at least the second and third floors on the right side of the home. More than two dozen first responders and at least eight fire trucks were also at the scene.
According to an eyewitness who called 911, just before 3 p.m., he saw flames on a second-story porch and, as he was calling for help, the fire quickly spread. The same witness said he also saw multiple families escape.
