(NewsNation) — New Hampshire has agreed to pay Harmony Montgomery's mother $2.25 million after the 5-year-old girl's father was convicted of her murder.
Crystal Sorey had filed a negligence lawsuit against New Hampshire in May 2024. She accused social workers of ignoring signs that her daughter was being physically abused by her ex-husband, Adam Montgomery, after he was given custody in 2019.
Adam Montgomery is now serving a minimum of 56 years in prison after he was convicted of killing his daughter and moving her body around for months before getting rid of it. Police think that Harmony Montgomery was killed almost two years before she was eventually reported missing in 2021.
