Woodstock's Tree Board commemorated its 20th anniversary Tuesday night with a presentation at the town council meeting highlighting two decades of canopy expansion, conservation programming and ecological planning.
Joan Comanor, a founding board member, led the retrospective alongside town arborist Brian Schennum, recounting the board’s milestones since its 2005 inception, including the town’s first Tree City USA designation that same year.
Since then, Woodstock has planted 832 trees with the help of more than $105,000 in grants, according to the presentation. Key projects include the Indian Spring Wetland developed in partnership with James Madison University, the establishment of a full-time arborist in 2019 and the launch of tribute and notable trees programs.
