HORRY COUNTY, S.C. (WMBF) - South Carolina officials announced on Wednesday that the Carolina Forest wildfire is now extinguished.

The South Carolina Forestry Commission said the fire has been put out 95 days after it ignited on Mar. 1.

The fire burned 2,059 acres of the Carolina Forest area in Horry County, threatening thousands of homes.

Officials said the decision to declare the fire controlled follows significant rain after officials announced the fire was 100 percent contained last month.
