Court documents reveal that a Richmond man told police he shot his daughter after an argument.

Richmond police responded at 10 a.m. Saturday to a report of a man holding a child and a firearm in the 700 block of South Harrison Street. Inside the home officers found Alonzo Ellis, 55, his daughter, Alicia Ellis, 22, and her son.

According to the criminal complaint, Alonzo Ellis told officers he shot his daughter after an argument in the presence of her son.

Police found Alicia Ellis on the floor of the apartment with a gunshot wound. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Alonzo Ellis is charged with shooting within an occupied dwelling as well as child neglect. He is being held without bond.

The age of the child has not been released, and police say additional charges are pending.
