RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) — A Raleigh grandmother is focused on staying fit while battling cancer.

Donna Kidder, 71, is in better shape than many people half her age. Having always been passionate about fitness, she enjoys running, cycling, kayaking, windsurfing, and martial arts.

Kidder, who has completed seven marathons, remembers the elation of crossing the finish line for the first time.

"I didn't think I could do a marathon," she said. "I hadn't trained for it, I hadn't planned on it. I just did it, so then I had to beat the time."

Race times weren't the only thing Kidder had to beat. In 2012, she was diagnosed with multiple myeloma, a blood cancer with no cure.

"Most never know I've been fighting cancer for 13 years," Kidder said.
