Cole County announced Wednesday it will reorganize its emergency services.

The plan is to unify the Emergency Medical Services and Emergency Management under "a single umbrella."

The County Commission approved this measure on Tuesday, and it is expected to "enhance coordination, streamline operations and strengthen the county’s ability to respond to disasters and emergencies."

The County Commission has committed to a one-year pilot of this model, with a formal evaluation to follow.

A news release says the reorganization is estimated to save $50,000 annually in salary and benefits.
