COLUMBIA — The "I Love U Guys" Foundation held a two-day training session providing school staff and emergency service workers with methods to reunify a child with their parent or guardian following a crisis.
The foundation trains people nationwide and was founded after a shooting in a Colorado high school in 2006 , where a 16-year-old girl who was shot and killed texted her dad "I love U guys."
"From that tragedy came a program that's now being used in probably, roughly 60,000 schools in the United States," said Kevin Burd, training director for the "I Love U Guys" Foundation.
A Columbia Public Schools spokesperson said the district participates in crisis trainings every year, but this is the first year it has worked with the "I Love U Guys" Foundation.
